Budapest Weekend

by Friday, November 23, 2012
I managed to get sick, stay sick, get well and somewhere in the middle of it all, I made it to Budapest and back. Its a luck that I got myself a relax day at the thermal bath Szecheneyi Fürdo, that made me let go of the bad from my body… Budapest is such a beautiful city and let me tell you I have walked around it a lot (like really a lot!) so I know it like my pocket. It is beautiful during the pre-xmas time, with its many tiny christmas fairs, with a lot to eat, hear and see.

Budapest Short Trip – Matrioshka Obsession

So here are my instant power tips for Budapest:

Get up early-Take a walk (the distance between the stations is hilariously short!) – go to the famous market hall-grab a hot chicken -soup to go- at leves. Buy some goose pate at the market hall. Try to resist the beautiful matrioshkas!!! Get out and cross the Szabadsag bridge. Climb up the Gellert Hill – all the way to Citadella. Drink a hot wine. Get down! This time go to the Erszebet Hid – Elisabeth Bridge. Take a walk through Vaci street (the most central one in Budapest) and get to the Vörösmarty Square and now eat. I won’t tell you what and where cause I have repeated it a lot and don’t forget to drink PALINKA (a very hungarian strong drink which you can also drink within some punch. Top Favorite Palinka is Raspberry!) 🙂 Do not eat sweets at the Square, go just a few steps into the most famous sweet house of the world – Gerbeaud (very expensive and the experience you won’t forget) Now get out and take the rakoczy Street to the VII. District. It is very nice to go out. Top place to see is SZIMPLA! Wont say no more about this one… If you still have energy, follow the crowd around Kazinczy Street – there are a lot of cool bars and pubs and everywhere you can grab something to eat. For your second day in Budapest: See the Synagoge, Parliamant, get lost in the smallest streets you’ll find. Try to go to Raday Utca – the Restaurant District. We went to a restaurant called Puder and do not forget to try some sweets on the Christmas Markets. Visit the Fishermans Bastion, Gellert Thermal Bath and Szechenyi Thermals. On Your way Home, buy some Hungarian Wine, ZSERBO KOCKE (those are “copies” of the famous gerbeaud cubes) and smile while leaving Hungary.

And don’t forget: always keep your eyes open, there is so much more what I can not tell you, and you have to experience it by yourself… Lotta Love… Enjoy

xx CHi
